Chloe Kim is a Korean-American interdisciplinary artist based in Chicago and is currently attending the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a BFA focused on painting.
Working primarily in oil paint, her practice draws from moments in life, including her experiences as an immigrant navigating culture and displacement as well as observations from everyday life, translating fragments of memory and emotion through expressive figures, vibrant color, and layered surfaces. The figures in her work originate from doodles she made as a child, reappearing as emotional avatars that embody humor, vulnerability, and reflection. Influenced by her experience growing up between languages, she approaches art making as a form of translation, where mark-making and gesture function as a visual language. She explores how personal moments can resonate as shared experiences.
